The North Branch Police Department, Wyoming Police Department, Lakes Area Police Department, and the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office have teamed together to provide Chisago County residents with an opportunity to experience “life behind the badge” with a ten-week Citizen’s Academy. The Program is intended to strengthen partnerships between the police and the community and to give citizens insight into modern-day policing through classroom and hands-on training conducted by various law enforcement personnel.
Sessions will involve a wide variety of topics and hands-on activities in which participants can learn about police use of force, narcotic and criminal investigations, emergency communications, traffic stops, DWI demonstrations, and other topics. After successful completion of the program, participants will also be given the opportunity to ride-along with a police officer for four hours during his or her shift.
The Citizen’s Academy meets primarily on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm starting in September. The academy meets at one of the four law enforcement agencies each week.
REQUIREMENTS: You must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and no felony convictions on your record. Applicants will be asked to submit a completed Citizen’s Academy Application and sign a Waiver and Release of Liability Form. All participants will be subject to a criminal background check.
To apply, you must submit a Citizen's Academy Application to Michelle Jacobson with the Chisago County Sheriff's Office. Michelle can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 651-213-6309. Get your applications in early as there is limited space and applications are available on a first-come first-serve basis.
We hope to see you there!
